Plagiarism
The ADIMAS Editorial Board acknowledges that plagiarism is unacceptable and therefore establishes the following policy which outlines specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in articles submitted for publication in ADIMAS.
Our Policy:
-
The paper must be original, not published, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any material taken word-for-word from another source needs to be clearly identified as distinct from the original text with (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.
-
Any text that exceeds the standard fair use (defined here as more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or any reproduced graphic material from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if possible, the original author, and also requires source identification; for example, a prior publication.
When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for reviewing the paper and will approve actions according to the level of plagiarism detected (30% plagiarism) in the paper based on the following guidelines:
-
Minor: Short sections of another article are copied without significant data or ideas taken from another paper.
Action: A warning is given to the author, and a request is made to revise the text and properly cite the original article.
-
Moderate: Most of the paper is copied without appropriate citation to the original paper.
Action: The submitted article is rejected, and the author is prohibited from submitting further articles for one year.
-
Severe: Most of the paper is copied, involving reproduction of results or ideas presented in another publication.
Action: The paper is rejected, and the author is prohibited from submitting further articles for five years.
It is understood that all authors are responsible for the content of the papers they submit as they all sign the ADIMAS Copyright Transfer Form. If penalties are applied for plagiarism, all authors will face the same consequences.
If a second case of plagiarism by the same author is identified, a decision regarding the actions to be taken will be made by the Editorial Board (Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Members) in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief. The author(s) may be permanently banned from submitting further articles.
This policy also applies to material reproduced from other publications by the same author. If an author uses previously published text or images, the relevant paragraphs or images must be identified and the previous publication referenced. It is understood that in the case of review papers or tutorial papers, much of the material may have been previously published.
Authors must identify sources of previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and publisher. If an author submits a manuscript to ADIMAS with significant overlap with a manuscript simultaneously submitted to another journal, and this overlap is found during the review process or after the publication of both papers, the other journal’s editor will be notified and the case will be handled as a severe plagiarism case. Significant overlap means the use of identical or nearly identical images and text that are identical or slightly modified for one and a half or more papers. For self-plagiarism involving less than half of the paper but more than one-tenth of the paper, the case will be treated as moderate plagiarism. If the self-plagiarism is limited to the methods section, it will be treated as minor plagiarism.
If an author uses previously published material to clarify the presentation of new results, the previously published material must be identified and the differences from this publication should be stated. Permission to republish must be obtained from the copyright holder. In the case of manuscripts originally published in conference proceedings and later submitted for publication in ADIMAS in either the identical form or an expanded form, the author must identify the conference proceedings’ name and publication date and obtain permission to republish from the copyright holder. The editor may decide not to accept this paper for publication.
However, an author is permitted to use material from unpublished presentations, including visuals, in subsequent journal publications. In the case of publications submitted that were originally published in another language, the title, date, and original journal of publication must be identified by the author, and copyright must be obtained. Editors may accept such translated publications to reach a wider audience. Editors may select certain papers that have been published (for example, “science” papers) for republication to provide a better perspective on a series of papers published in a single issue of ADIMAS. This republication must be clearly identified with the date and original journal of publication, and permission from the author and publisher must be obtained.
The ADIMAS Layout Editor is responsible for maintaining a list of authors who have been penalized and will check that no prohibited authors are included in the submitted paper list. If a banned author is identified, the Layout Editor will inform the Editor-in-Chief, who will take the appropriate action. This policy will be posted on the website with instructions for manuscript submission, and a copy will be emailed to authors with the confirmation email after receiving their initial manuscript. A sentence will be added to the Copyright Transfer Form to indicate that the author has read the Plagiarism Policy.
